Lesson Plan Jam

SUMMARY: A workshop for Middle and High School Teachers (Gr 7-12) and Community Based Educators/Artist-Educators (working with youth ages 13-18). Experience collaborative creative lesson planning in a supportive environment, to incorporate more purpose, creativity, equity, and well-being into your classroom.

WHAT IT IS: Teachers and Artist Educators are invited to this hands-on, DIY-style workshop where you will have an opportunity to bring and revise/create your own lesson plans in a supportive, collective, and collaborative environment. We will centre in on supporting each other to incorporate Purpose Driven Education (creativity, purpose, equity, and well-being) into the classroom. Some instructional/informational training in these areas will also be provided during these workshops.

WHO IT IS FOR: School Teachers (Gr 7-12) and Community Based Educators/Artist-Educators (currently working with youth ages 13-18) who wish to increase engagement and deepen impact for the students in their classrooms. (Must be currently in practice of teaching on a regular basis)

FRAMEWORK: These workshops will be centered around the pedagogical framework of Purpose Driven Education, which is founded on these four core elements: (1) Identity & Purpose; (2) Equity & Social Justice; (3) Creativity & the Arts; (4) Well-Being

In addition to these core elements of Purpose Driven Education, we will also work from the framework of Culturally Responsive/Relevant Pedadgogy, Equity and Inclusion, Multi-Modal learning, Multiple Literacies, Experiential Education, Arts-Based Education, Growth Mindset, and redefining the role of Teacher and Student to one that is aimed towards collective growth and success.

FACILITATOR: The Real Sun

The Real Sun is an Artist and Educator who has been in professional practice for the past 12 years, performing and teaching all across Ontario and around the world. She is the Creator of Voice of Purpose and has dedicated her life to delivering Purpose Driven Education through the Arts. The Real Sun stands for equity and inclusion, fostering resilience and well-being, and has a passion for opening spaces of authenticity and creativity through her work on the stage and in the classroom. She has partnered with many Teachers within Public, Private, and Catholic School Boards to deliver innovative and engaging curriculua that meet ministry standards, to students of all ages.
